Alta is the administrative centre of the Finnmark county of Norway. Alta Airport (ALF) is located 4 km east of the town centre, near the community of Elvebakken. The airport serves as a busy transportation hub for the other regional airports in the Finnmark region. Currently, it is the busiest airport in the region with a total of 334,132 passengers served in 2009. Avinor AS, a state-owned company, oversees the operations of Alta Airport.

The Norwegian Air Shuttle, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, and Widerøe, which is part of the SAS group, operate local domestic flights to and from Alta Airport. No international flights are currently operating from Alta Airport. Passengers travelling to international destinations fly to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen (IATA: OSL, ICAO: ENGM) for their flight connection. Daily direct flights from Oslo Airport, Gardermoen to Alta usually take an hour and 45 minutes. Charter flights from Norwegian destinations to Alta are also available for booking.

Parking: Europark operates a facility with 22 short term parking spaces and 520 long term parking spaces. Vehicles parked in any of the available spaces in the short-term parking area are allowed a maximum of two hours. For those who are parking beyond 30 days, it is best to inform Europark. Rates start at kr40 an hour for short term parking. There is also a designated parking area for differently-abled individuals. Ticket vending machines which process card or cash payments are available near the parking areas. User guidelines are posted in all of the machines.

WiFi: There are two ways to access wifi services in the airport. If you are an existing subscriber to any of the available service providers, just log on to the website and provide your access information. Another option is to buy access from several subscribers, such as Boingo, Six, and Wayport. Subscription to Norwegian, iPass, Telenor , and NextGenTel can be activated through their websites.

Dining and Shopping: There is a cafeteria inside the airport which serves food and drinks. Kiosks sell reading materials, souvenirs, and snacks. The shops are open from 6:30 to 18:30 during weekdays, 6:30 to 12:30 on Saturday, and 9:30 to 20:30 on Sunday.
